Boot Updater 1.30 Procedure
- Download the boot updater program called BootUpdater130.exe
- Connect your DrumIt Five to your PC via a USB cable ( PC Only ).
- Turn the power on, and press the top left DATA button above the display to start in USB mode.
- If you get a question on your PC about scanning and fixing the drive, select Continue without scanning.
- Check which drive letter is assigned to DrumIt Five. This can be D, E etc...
- Double click on the BootUpdater130 program.
- Type the DrumIt Five drive letter and press Enter.
- Now the boot updater code is written to the DrumIt Five. ( This is done slowly in small data chunks to avoid transfer problems. )
- When it's ready, press Enter.
- Check that your PC is finished writing to DrumIt Five ( no R or W indicators active on the LCD ).
- Switch DrumIt Five off.
Checking your update was successful
- Switch DrumIt Five on again and hold down the middle DATA button above the display to start in OS select mode.
- Press the left or middle DATA button ( Prev or Next ) until you see the BootU130 file.
- If the file is correctly written in the steps described earlier, you see version number 1.30 under OS on the lower right side of the LCD ( actually it's not the OS version but the new boot version ). If an error occured during the boot update procedure, Error appears under OS.
- When a correct boot updater is available, press the right DATA button to load it.
- The boot updater will now run and replace boot 1.10 with boot 1.30.
- When all went well, the LCD indicates Ready and 100%.
- Switch DrumIt Five off and then on again
- Verify that the boot version is now 1.30.
When this is done, you have a fully functional boot version ( which even starts quicker since the memory test is only run when holding down Test at start up ). As the previous boot updater file write to DrumIt Five ( or any other file write ) might have corrupted the file system on the internal Flash memory, it is strongly recommended to run a disk check on the DrumIt Five drive.
Performing an Error check
- Connect your DrumIt Five to your PC via a USB cable.
- Turn the power on, and press the top left DATA button above the display to start in USB mode.
- On your PC, navigate to the DrumIt Five drive.
- Right click on the drive icon and select Properties.
- Choose the Tools tab.
- Click the Check Now... button.
- Make sure the Automatically fix file system errors check box is active.
- Click Start.
- ( Alternatively, run "chkdsk /f:" from a command prompt. )
After the test is complete, some files might have been rounded up as lost data. Open the drive and delete these files ( one can also delete the BootU130.bin file ). As file reading and writing over USB is now fully functional, any file can be read or written by any host computer including a Mac. ( The reason why boot update with a Mac doesn't work with DrumIt boot 1.10, is because the Mac writes a lot of data the first time when an external drive is connected. During this stage the connection with DrumIt Five might already have failed. )
Now one can also copy new sound files and / or song files ( stereo 16 bit 44.1 kHz wave files ) to the DrumIt Five. Please note that the maximum transfer rate is about 1 MB / sec ( 12 Mbits / sec over USB minus protocol and processing overhead ). So a 5 min wave file ( ca 50 MB ) can take 1 minute or more to transfer.
